Call Committee Update

March 14, 2025

The Call Committee continues to work on preparations for interviewing call candidates. As of this date, two potential candidates have come forward. We believe God has a plan for the future of our congregation, and we will be faithful in prayers and preparation for the upcoming interviews. We discussed the book, “Call to Allyship”, Angela T !Khabeb, Editor, and all that it has to offer in the way of preparation and mindset for choosing a call candidate. We are in prayer and preparation for ourselves to be able to discern the best candidate for our community of worshipers.

The majority of us attended the after-church discussion of Vision-and-Mission-statement preparation on February 2nd. It was inspiring to hear everyone’s thoughts, perspectives, and longings for a future with ULC and LCM growth and participation. We had a very professional leader, Ray, taking us through the thought process and getting ideas together. It was well attended by members, students and young adults, and council members. Lots of direction was provided for the formation of statements, and it will be a challenge to distill it all into a short message! There is lots of passion for our purpose here in Tempe, AZ.

Please help us pray for wisdom and discernment for the Call Committee and that a promising and suitable pastoral candidate will be chosen.

ReconcilingWorks Mutual Aid Fund

March 13, 2025

In December 2024, ReconcilingWorks launched a mutual aid fund to provide support and assistance to LGBTQ Lutherans. “Mutual aid” is defined as a community working together to collectively support each others needs, especially where other social safety nets have left gaps. ReconcilingWorks’s mutual aid fund has been set up to support LGBTQ families and individuals in our congregation and ministries. Specifically, these funds will help people with processes like legal name changes, document updates, and adoption proceedings, where cost can be a barrier. Applicants are eligible to receive up to $500 (depending on their needs and situation), and the decision committee meets bi-weekly. If God is calling you to support this fund, please visit: reconcilingworks.org/resources/mutual-aid/

Support LCM-ASU During Campus Ministry Madness

March 7, 2025

What Is Campus Ministry Madness?

Campus Ministry Madness is a month-long digital “friendraising” event for ELCA Campus Ministry organizations held in March. It’s an opportunity for campus ministries to work together to raise awareness about campus ministry and to connect campus ministry alumni and supporters to ministries in the organizations they serve!

Our goals in participating in this tournament are to:

1. Raise awareness about our campus ministry here at LCM-ASU and the great work that we do.

2. Learn from the various activities, outreach, and ministries of other ELCA campus ministries.

3. Fundraise for LCM-ASU so that we may continue to help and support our students.

How You Can Donate and Help Us Earn Points

First, you can donate to LCM-ASU from March 3rd through 30th by visiting http://luminelca.org/madness.     In order to earn credit towards the tournament, donations must be made through this official donation portal. Select “AZ—Arizona State University” in the dropdown menu when prompted “Which ministry are you supporting?”. In addition to your generous donations, $250 dollars will be awarded to the campus ministry winner-of-the-week each week during March, and a grand prize of $2,500 will be awarded to the overall winner!

Second, please post, share, and follow us on social media! When doing so, use the official hashtags #lcmasu  #luminelca  #ministrymadness     We get bonus points if you include the donation link in your posts:  http://luminelca.org/madness     We will also post the winner and standings each week (another good reason to follow us):

Facebook: University Lutheran Church, Tempe, Arizona

Instagram: Lutheran Campus Ministry ASU (@lcmasu)

Thank you in advance for supporting LCM-ASU! Your donations will help fund invaluable aspects of our ministry such as free student meals, coffee outings, retreat assistance, and more. Don’t forget to spread the word to family and friends!

Update: So far, the competition overall has received 26 gifts supporting 9 different schools. The current leaders are MT State, NC State, and UW Madison. Let’s catch up!
