LCM Student Meal 9/17/2023

Students are back at it…books, laptops, even “all nighters” have already taken their time.

Here at Lutheran Campus Ministry (LCM) our schedule of Bible studies, meals, worship services, service projects, and lefse making has returned.

Thanks to all who help out with student food pantry and meals.

Mountain Of Metal & Cardboard

With our food box at the church entrance empty we are putting a special emphasis on collecting non perishable food items. Placed before the altar as an offering to one who said “ Whenever you feed the hungry, you feed me.”


Food is shared with ASU’s Pitchfork Food Pantry. ASU counseling services reports about one third of their students struggle with food anxiety in any given week. We have seen this here at times with our own students.


On some occasions we also share this food with Grace Lutheran in downtown Phoenix and their outreach to the homeless. Thanks to all who bring gifts of food. Place them in front of the altar when you arrive.

Forums Return

Our weekly forums returned September 10th, at 9:15 am in the Campus Center Library or via Zoom. September forums are:

  • Sept 24: “Miracles Do Happen” a program for amputees in Mexico led by Jeff Lewis. Jeff, a victim of a random shooting and quad amputee, supports this charity and continues to lead it.
  • Oct 1: “Lutheran Advocacy Ministry of Arizona” Director Solveig Muus and our own Autumn Byars will be with us to tell us of the good work of this ministry of our synod.
  • Oct 8: “Truth and Healing; the ELCA and Native Peoples” led by Taina Diaz-Reyes, and LCM PhD student has served on the task force of the ELCA in drafting this statement and encouraging this policy.
  • Oct 15: “Truth and Healing part II” led by Taina Diaz-Reyes.

12-Step Group

The Tuesday night Twelve step group arrives early to set up for 30+ members. Thursday night group is about double the number of participants. Those attending come from ASU, Northern Tempe and beyond including two vans from rehab centers. Thanks to University Lutheran Church (ULC) for helping to provide space for healing.
