Andy Tadlock – Student of the Month

November 1, 2014

Andy Tadlock

Freshman, Aerospace Engineering Major

Why did you decide on your major?

I was told to major in Engineering, and Aerospace was the least   boring of the Engineering majors.

What are your plans after graduation?

To buy a 2014 Camaro SS.

Why did you start coming to LCM?

Melanie Lehnhardt (a fellow LCM student) dragged me here.

What is your favorite thing about LCM?

All of the great people!   They are all inspirational; all of the LCM students are people you can look up to.

What are some of your hobbies/favorite things to do?

I like to work on cars and fish.  Watch hockey games with my grandfather.

What are some interesting facts about yourself?

I will eat anything.  I have never broken a bone in my body, but through Lacrosse I have broken bones in 4 other people.

Student of the Month – Alex Willoughby

November 15, 2013

Alex Willoughby - Student of the Month

Year in School? Freshman

Area of Study/Interest? Electrical Engineering, though a switch to Computer Systems Engineering may be in store. Intrigued by computers, Alex hopes to learn about the physics, electronics, and materials involved computer hardware.

Hometown? Duluth, Minnesota, where he played in worship band at his church.

Hobbies? Reading (including the series A Song of Ice and Fire), PC gaming (built his own computer), plays in the band at LCM on Wednesday nights (first electric guitar and now bass guitar)

Hearing about LCM: Alex discovered LCM during the annual ASU event, Passport to ASU. The room for campus religious groups was actually the first room he entered, with the intent of finding a Lutheran ministry. Pastor Gary pulled him in and convinced him to play in the band at LCM.

What does he like about LCM? The comfortable atmosphere which gives it a ‘home away from home’ sort of feeling.

Plans for the future?  Possibly working in power engineering with energy grids.

Interviewed and Written by: Melanie Lehnhardt

Where are you from?
I’m from Waukesha, Wisconsin (said in her cute, Midwest accent).

Then how did you end up at ASU?
I’m a Music Therapy graduate student, and ASU has a three-year graduate degree program. Arizona is really different than Wisconsin.

What’s the biggest difference?
The heat. The stupid heat (she says laughing). It’s a lot busier here, too!

So how did you find LCM, and what do you think about it so far?
I’m pretty sure I found LCM online. It’s great- the San Diego trip we went on at the beginning of the year has definitely been a highlight for me. I especially liked the service we had on the La Jolla Cliffs.

And you must know by now that Pastor Gary is a little crazy?
He’s very… outgoing. And excited. About everything. Once he found out I could sing he told me I was going to have to be worship assistant, and I said okay!

Anything else you want the entire church to know?
Wait, they all read this?!

Student of the Month – Christian Normand

April 7, 2013

Christian Normand
Christian Normand
Where are you from? I was born near Seattle. Lived there ’till I was 6. I moved out here to Chandler and that’s kind of where I’ve been ever since.

What year are you? Freshman What’s your major? I’m studying Mechanical Engineering.

What does that involve? A lot of physic, a lot of math, a lot of studying… little social interaction *laughs* that’s basically it!

What do you want to do with that? I want to get into renewable energy, maybe get a minor in sustainability. I’m lookin’ at how I can fit that into the works.

What are your hobbies? I’m really into music. I love listening and playing it. I play drums and guitar. Okay, other than music, I like getting out of the city and going hiking, kayaking, and fishing. I like gettin’ in the outdoors, you know? Oak Creek up near Sedona is really nice.

How did you first hear about LCM? I was involved in LCM down in Tucson. Then when I went to U of A. So, when I came up here I was like, “you know I should get involved in LCM up here too.” I knew it was a great thing to be involved in, and I’m lucky I found it.

What do you like about LCM? Oh, there’s so much! I like that everyone is just so nice and inviting. The first time I came out here and everyone was just so welcoming. It just felt like my place, you know? I also like Pastor Gary’s enthusiasm. It’s a different dynamic up here than at U of A, I liked both but it’s different. I like it here.

Where do you see yourself in ten years? Or where do you hope to be? I don’t know. It’s hard to say what things will be like in ten years. Maybe I’ll own a hovercar. I hope to have a happy life, doing something I love, and maybe be involved in music. You know, wherever life takes me, that’s where I’ll be in ten years.

What would you tell freshman who were thinking of joining LCM? They should come on out to Wednesday night or something because it’s fun. We’re a great group of people
