New Banners Installed

October 24, 2019

We are grateful for those who help install, design and cheer us on for creating new banners to be installed on the solar poles on the patio between the sanctuary and the campus center.

We are thankful to Terry Anderson, Terry Pochert and Pastor Gary to insure they were installed correctly and safely and that expert pictures were taken.

Student of the Month – Kayla Pagel

October 19, 2019

Kayla PagelName: Kayla Pagel
Year of School: Freshman

Hometown: Tempe

What memories do you have from University Lutheran from before college?
University Lutheran was my first church. Pastor Gary baptized me and it is really amazing to be know that I have families at different churches around Arizona; from University Lutheran, to Desert Cross, to Trinity Lutheran Church. Even though I was only a toddler, I can clearly remember going on Easter Egg hunts around campus and watching fish in the canal with my dad while we waited for my mom finish conversing after service.

What are some positives and/or challenges living on the polytechnic campus?
Positives would be less foot traffic and more nature than Tempe so it is really pleasant to walk around and see the bunnies, roadrunners, quail, and blooming flowers. The biggest challenge and negative would be feeling distanced from friends I have at other campuses.

What is your favorite part of LCM?
Just hanging out with people who understand and share the value of having a belief. Knowing there is always a community of people with the same faith helps ground me.

Why would you encourage others to check out LCM?
It is a welcoming community of people who genuinely want to know how you are doing. Having free food is also great along with nice people and laughter.

What is one thing you are looking forward to this year?
I am looking forward to learning new applications of math so that I can turn designs in my head into a real world product. I am also looking forward to different opportunities to travel with school and friends.

Prayer Shawl Ministry

October 16, 2019

A Prayer Shawl is started with a prayer blessing for the recipient; prayers continue through the creative process. It is a blend of prayers, talents, gifts, and grace and show that we are all knit together by God’s guiding hands and love. Many many thanks to Lynn Becker and Mary Ann Salz for getting this idea launched!

At ULC this is a loosely knit group! Meaning anyone can join in that knits or crochets or knows of someone needing a prayer shawl, lap robe, gift, reminder that you are loved, We discovered that quite a few of us knit and a few crochet, or know how to crochet and there may be others who would like to contribute, but don’t or can’t knit or crochet. We will accept donations of yarn, money to send the shawl, and ideas or desires of who to send shawls to. You will find a chest that holds the shawls in or around the ULC campus (we’re not sure where to put it yet). The only requirement is that you tell your story of who the shawl is going to and where it is going such as our first story below and add it to the Trail of Tales.

Trail of Tales:

#1: Our first shawl is going to our recently relocated member, Janet Anderson. She was always chilly in services, and since she left without a lot of notice, we ladies of the ULC wanted to send her a shawl as our replacements for hugs and warmth. We ladies also wanted her to know that we miss her and think of her often. We are happy for her relocation close to her son and his family.

(I’ll purchase a chest or box of sorts and print on card stock to attach to the shawls the story of the shawls. I’m not sure where to place it yet, but we’ll work that out later and make an announcement for them.)

Thanks so much,

Lori Zurcher
