What is your favorite part of LCM?
My favorite part of LCM is the people. Everyone has always been incredibly friendly and welcoming, and it’s easy to feel the community that surrounds you.
Why would you encourage others to check out LCM?
I would encourage others to check out LCM to be a part of this community that cares about you. I would encourage others to come if they were looking to experience God in a way not filled with judgment and anger, but of love.
What is one thing you are looking forward to this year?
I am looking forward to the next Mexico Mission Trip. I did it once before in high school, and it was a pretty great experience. Also, I am looking forward to the next San Diego Trip because unfortunately I missed the last one.
Year of School: Freshman

1) What is your favorite part of LCM?
Being able to meet people through LCM and being able to share memories like San Diego, Dinners and Lefse Making with all of them.
2) Why would you encourage others to check out LCM?
It is a great way to meet people from all walks of life and keep in touch with your faith while experiencing the hustle and bustle of college.
3) What is one thing you are looking forward to this year?
Getting further into my academic career and continuing to get more involved on campus!
The Page Turner’s Book Club meets at noon in the Campus Center on the first Thursday of each month. New members are welcome, even if you can only attend once in awhile. We will be reading the following selections through the end of the year:
February 1, 2018: “Luther the Reformer: The Story of the Man and His Career” (Second Edition), James M. Kittelson (author) and Hans H. Wiersma (editor) (Kim)
For nearly thirty years, James M. Kittelson’s Luther the Reformer has been the standard biography of Martin Luther. Like Roland Bainton’s biography of the generation before, Kittelson’s volume is the one known by thousands of students, pastors, and interested readers as the biography that gave them the details of this dramatic man and his history. The accolades were well deserved. Fair, insightful, and detailed without being overwhelming, Kittelson was able to negotiate a “middle way” between the many directions of historical research and present a more complete chronological picture of Luther than many had yet portrayed. For this revised edition, Hans H. Wiersma has made an outstanding text even better. The research is updated, and the text is revised throughout, with images, bibliographies, and timelines to enhance the experience.
March 1, 2018: “Pope Joan: A Novel” by Donna Woolfolk Cross (Lori Z.)
Donna Woolfolk Cross brings the Dark Ages to life in all their brutal splendor and shares the dramatic story of a woman whose strength of vision led her to defy the social restrictions of her day. For a thousand years her existence has been denied. She is the legend that will not die—Pope Joan, the ninth-century woman who disguised herself as a man and rose to become the only female ever to sit on the throne of St. Peter. Now in this riveting novel, Cross paints a sweeping portrait of an unforgettable heroine who struggles against restrictions her soul cannot accept. An enthralling, scholarly historical novel.
Christmas Eve was the first time we used our baby grand piano for worship. It was a gift of David and Nancy Tollefson. The Tollefsons had once been members of ULC and had two daughters, Ellen and Kristin, come through our campus ministry. Kristin continues to be here as a member and leads our altar guild.
We will continue to use the previous piano for some worship ( Easter Sunrise, for example) and for other events. That piano had been given in the early 1990’s by Muriel Cronin in memory of her brother. Thanks to the Tollefsons for the gift of a baby grand piano (and transportation to ULC) and to Muriel for many years of great music through her gift of a piano. Thanks to Music Director Aiko Yamada Mancini, the choir, musicians, and all who work to give us such great music!!
