Each year, Bread for the World selects a specific topic as it encourages each of us to send handwritten letters to our elected officials as a part of a its collective Christian voice urging elected officials to end hunger at home and abroad.
We were fortunate to have Lupe Conchas, regional organizer for Bread, lead our April 10th Forum to identify and amplify our role in helping end child nutrition. We know that malnutrition is the leading risk factor for death among children globally, accounting for 45 percent of all child deaths. These losses are almost entirely preventable. This year, in our letters we are encouraging Congress to double our global nutrition funding for fiscal year 2023, saving 3.3 million lives over 5 years.
In past years, we have actually had you physically put your letters in the offering plate, but this year we’re asking that you write and send your letters directly. We’d like you to notify the church office, then, of the number you sent and to whom they were sent. If you need further information, contact bread.org/nutritionbill
